“We, as a company, seek to not only provide diverse spending for clients and meaningful engagement with diverse communities but the placement of diverse candidates in support of creating more inclusive cultures with a sense of real belonging.”
Brian Auden
I founded Superbeo to meet a growing need amongst candidates and companies to connect candidates and clients in diversity, equity, and inclusion in environments of belonging. I am passionate about knowing that a person gains employment daily, supports families, and improves incomes and lives. To know I have that opportunity every day is a blessing; further, to know I can serve those disadvantaged in any way is humbling.
It didn’t come easy; as a gay male who grew up socially and economically disadvantaged, frequently moving around the country, I have been exposed to many different biases and walks of life. In each location, I faced new challenges; was I part of the right religion, had I attended the right schools, was I a ‘local?’ As I aged, did I have a wife and children? Each measure did not reflect my experiences, abilities, or skill. Thus, I had to accept positions less than my capabilities and work harder and longer to ‘prove’ myself when given any opportunities hiding inconvenient truths and masking my personality, disabilities, and discomfort to make others comfortable while, in many cases, not genuinely belonging despite my hard-won success and best efforts to ‘fit in.’
Working in the Staffing Industry since 1996, I have also had the opportunity to see every industry sector from the inside out, from the Fortune 50 to ‘Mom and Pop’ organizations. This, paired with my volunteer service after 9/11 (2004-2007) as a US Army Combat Engineer and Paratrooper deployed to Afghanistan, has provided me with unique insights into employment challenges facing civilian and government organizations and their candidates/workforce.
I have experienced age discrimination as a young employee coming up with technology and inferences that I couldn’t know or lead. I was perceived as too young and thus must be inexperienced by older colleagues. Similarly, I witnessed my aged colleagues experience the same on the opposite side of the spectrum; they are too old and thus must be out of step. As a gay man, I was acutely aware of the need to hide my true self and my same-sex mixed parents to ensure success and promotion in many circumstances, including during my time in service. After my service, due to misconceptions about PTSD, acquired physical disabilities, and Veteran bias, I found limited opportunities as a Veteran who had served honorably. Despite my industry experience and skill, I was now seen as a risk and liability. My disabilities had to be masked or work through the pain to avoid being seen as a liability or less than others.
It would take me four years to re-enter the workforce at my previous status after my three years of service. I started with odd Jobs painting homes, working in a felon rehabilitation kitchen washing dishes, and bartending, doing whatever I could to keep working towards my goal. Determined to regain my position and career, helping others to find gainful employment, I did not relent. I was offered the chance to fill a critical role in the Staffing sector for which I was ‘overqualified,’ but it was an essential opening. I regained my career path and would use that same passion for finding staffing solutions ensuring the best-qualified talent, regardless of race, gender, sexual or religious orientation, disability, or hiring bias was able to find meaningful employment. This is while educating and coaching organizations on the advantages of hiring the best talent vs. preferred profiles.
Superbeo is the natural evolution of this pursuit as we, as a company, seek to not only provide diverse spending for clients and meaningful engagement with diverse communities but the placement of diverse candidates in support of creating more inclusive cultures with a sense of real belonging. Ensuring our clients and all candidates have meaningful access to opportunities in the communities where they reside and do business.
